14 Shades of Red

I've never seen Senator Kennedy move quite like that.

Thoughtful Readers Speak:
I've never understood how righties like yourself can continually spew bile about people like Kennedy and Kerry and then turn around and complain about "deranged liberals who hate Bush."

What are you talking about? Bile?

Why don't you go visit your morally pure friends over at Daily Kos. They manifest purity in the most saintly forms.

Kennedy--the "hero" of Chappaquiddick. Kerry--who accused American GIs of practicing widespread torture and genocide in Viet Nam.

Genocide is probably inaccurate. I seem to have vague recollections of learning about massacred villages in some long-ago history class, though.

I wonder how much our acceptance of killing is due to the pervasiveness of it in our society. We seem to become insensitive and, thus, rarely hits our radar screen. I am including all forms of killing and ending life.

Erica, Lt. Calley and the My Lai massacre comes to mind--one of those unfortunate episodes of war when one's enemy and one's friends all look the same, dress the same, live the same. Ten-year-old children approach the GI asking for candy, neither of them knowing that the child has been booby-trapped with a grenade. Our soldiers face the same threats in Iraq. Lt. Calley was rightly prosecuted and convicted; but Kennedy not reporting the drowning of Miss Kopechne for over 12 hours (and then only when accompanied by his attorney), and Kerry broad-brushing all GIs with his wild charges are both inexcusable. While you vaguely "heard" about these things in school, I and my friends lived through it.

Kerry broad-brushing all GIs with his wild charges

Except - that didn't happen.

But, you know, never let the truth get in the way of a good whine.

Great. Do you want a cookie?
