Democrats Don't Make Sense: Embryonic Stem Cells

One more thing I don't understand about democrats is why they want to fund embryonic stem cell research while all of the medical hopes and breakthroughs are coming from adult stem cells. I guess they just love that they possess the power of life and death.

"'Rather than defend human dignity, the Democrat led House of Representatives approved legislation to compel U.S. taxpayers to fund research that requires the destruction of human embryos. The President is absolutely right to veto this legislation.

'This bill is a bait and switch. It would not just fund so-called 'leftover' embryos, it will create a market for creating and cloning more human embryos for the express purpose of killing them.

'The bill also diverts crucial funding away from uncontroversial adult stem cell research and other cutting-edge research which is producing real treatments for real people."(cite)

Thoughtful Readers Speak:
You really should research before you blog, especially on scientific matters. Embryonic stem cells are and always have been the most potent. It is due the fact that they are undeveloped and can be manipulated into any number of different cells, unlike adult stem cells which are more developed, more mature, hence the name "adult". You really should try to learn more about subjects without letting the Bible and religious conservatives dictate your opinions. Although, I have to agree with you about those Democrats. I've been to their sacrificial parties and it is a trip. We have to stop them before they create clones just so they can butcher them!

I have great news for you that you don't know, obviously. Adult stem cells have benefitted 74 different kinds of diseases while embryonic stem cells have benefitted none.

Your deference to name-calling and insult is not becoming of a 'rational republican' but neither is the denial of fact.

Alright. I'll keep it civil and to the facts. You have placed your confidence in religiously biased organizations like the Family Research Council. The statement quoted in this post comes from Tony Perkins, president of the council and former news reporter with no science background and currently pursuing a masters in public administration. The following is directly from the NIH (National Institutes of Health):

"Why not use adult stem cells instead of using human embryonic stem cells in research?

Human embryonic stem cells are thought to have much greater developmental potential than adult stem cells. This means that embryonic stem cells may be pluripotent—that is, able to give rise to cells found in all tissues of the embryo except for germ cells rather than being merely multipotent—restricted to specific subpopulations of cell types, as adult stem cells are thought to be."

It's certainly possible that adult stem cells have benefited 74 diseases, but according to scientists, embryonic stem cells have the ability to do more. Scientists, including those in the governmental agency NIH, have clearly stated that embryonic stem cells hold greater potential. For me it really all boils down to the hypocrisy of pro-life. How does one justify preserving thousands of embryos, with no family, memories, feelings, and which end up in the trash or abandoned in a freezer, and ignore those with family, memories, and feelings, who desperately need a cure? Where is the compassion for the living? If a loved one was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, would your concern over the frozen embryos still take priority?
